Scotch Coulee
The way she was . . .
These maps were painstakingly created by my cousin, Deb. (Okay, she confessed. She had help from some maps she found. None the less, she did them!!!)
The photos were touched up to remove the buildings that are present at the sites now. She patiently looked
at the photos and removed the buildings pixel by pixel, so you would have some idea of how
the area looked before modern times. Kul, huh?
The first photo, (you may recognize if you have been following the Scotch Coulee Chronicles), was
taken from atop Red Lodge Hill. It looks down into the Washoe-Bearcreek (Scotch Coulee) area. Scotch Coulee goes up the valley
to the right of the picture and would be the valley going up where the color turns from the brownish color to the purplish-gray!
(It's MY story, so I pick the colors!)
The map. Well, all I can say is WOW! Great job Deb. Red Lodge is north. Wyoming is south.
In this second photo, we are looking up the road going up Scotch
Coulee. That's Mount Maurice in the background. If you look at the map below, you would be standing
about where you see the first little cluster of houses, just as you go up the road off the
highway between Red Lodge and Bearcreek.

The key to this map is not available at this point. But here is a listing of the names. We plan to include a listing
of the houses, and other buildings in the area as well as children's names. Eventually, we'd like to include some history and stories
about things happening in the coulee. If you have any stories of Scotch Coulee
and would like to send them along, please feel free to send me a note at cestnik@q.com. Deb also
did this cute little map. I want her to put in an eagle. What do you think?
So here is the final version of the map! Until we change it!
